Brush Fire in Pigeon Forge Causing Evacuations in the Area

Unfortunately, today (Sunday, January 26, 2014), a brush fire broke out around 2 p.m. and caused some evacuations in the area. Officials received notice around 1 p.m. that a fire was starting to

blaze. Around 2 p.m., more officials were called to assist. As of this afternoon, there were at least four firetrucks in the area controlling the flames.

According to WBIR, the fire is near Dollywood, off of Walker Trail. As of now, approximately 20-30 buildings, homes and cabins in Pigeon Forge have been evacuated. Fire officials are evacuating these areas as a precaution, to keep visitors and homeowners as safe as possible. No buildings, homes or cabins have been harmed at this time. The officials are expected to continue to evacuate nearby areas in order to keep everyone safe.

Officials are concerned about the current weather conditions in Pigeon Forge. The upper elevations in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park has been experiencing freezing temperatures, extreme snow and ice throughout the weekend. While a cold front is on the way into the area, Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg have remained fairly clear and dry. These dry, and very windy, conditions are causing concern that the fire may spread.
