If you’re one of those people who enjoy the creepy and scary things of the world, then you definitely need to come to the Smoky Mountains! There are quite a few places in the Smokies where paranormal activity has been reported. While it’s up to you to decide what to believe, it’s worth a trip to the Smokies to check out these spooky spots! Here are the top 5 places in the Smoky Mountains that might be haunted:
As you may know, Elkmont is home to a ghost town. There are quite a few pleasure cabins that are abandoned in the area because of the establishment of the national park. Many people claim Elkmont is one of the eeriest places to visit, especially the Wonderland Hotel. People have reported strange sounds or an eerie feeling of being watched in this area.
One of the most popular haunted places in the Smoky Mountains is the Greenbrier Restaurant . In the 1930s, this restaurant was used as a bed and breakfast. A woman named Lydia lived at Greenbrier Lodge in 1939. She was supposed to marry a man, but he left her at the altar. Lydia was apparently so distraught, she left the church and went back to the Greenbrier Lodge, threw a rope over a rafter, and hung herself. While this is enough to understand why the Greenbrier Restaurant is haunted, what’s even creepier is days after she died, Lydia’s fiance was found mangled by what locals assumed was a mountain lion. Many people say they see a sad woman on the staircase.
Another place where many people have reported paranormal sightings is the Roaring Fork Motor Trail . Many people claim they see a barefoot woman walking along the road, seeming looking for a ride. Apparently in the 1910s, there was a man named Forester who saw Lucy, a woman who was barefoot walking through the woods. He shared his horse with her and ended up falling in love with Lucy. He went to find her parents to ask for their blessing, but they told him their daughter had died in a cabin fire in 1909.
Quite a few people have reported that the churches, graveyards, and other historic structures in Cades Cove are haunted. People have claimed to see floating orbs around these areas, as well as in pictures. Another notable creepy encounter is the ability to see a woman’s face coming out of the church walls. Even if you don’t see any paranormal activity, seeing these historic buildings at dusk will definitely give you an eerie vibe.
Another popular paranormal activity you might see in the Smoky Mountains is in LeConte Lodge. There have been several reports of people seeing a little girl at 3:33 in the morning at the foot of their bed. As soon as they wake up, she is gone. No one knows who she is or what she wants.
