Just miles from our cabins in Gatlinburg, Big Creek Expeditions has a lower section scenic float and an upper river section for whitewater rafting. If you just want to dip your toe in before you go all out, try the lower section float first! You’ll experience class 1 and 2 rapids, providing you with the right amount of excitement! If you’re ready for adventure, go on the upper river section where you’ll experience class 3 and 4 rapids. You don’t have to have any previous experience to enjoy either of these trips!

A guide will take you along the river no matter which trip you choose. Everyone wears helmets and life jackets. Just arrive at your scheduled time. The guides will walk you through the basics and safety procedures before you head out. While out on the river, you’ll get to experience the beauty of the mountains first hand. Once you’re back at the outpost, you can look at the pictures that were taken of your group!

2. Whitewater Rafting with Smoky Mountain Outdoors

Another great whitewater rafting company is Smoky Mountain Outdoors! They have lower river trips for small children and people who want to build up to the upper trips. You’ll experience class 3 and 4 rapids on the upper river trips. If you really want an adrenaline rush, you should go on the extreme upper river trip! You and one other person, along with a guide, will be in a small raft, where you’ll feel every twist and turn of the rapids.

Smoky Mountain Outdoors also offers kayaking trips. You can travel the rapids on an inflatable kayak alongside your friends and family. The kayak trips are also guided, but you get to control your kayak yourself! You’ll wear a helmet and life jacket on these too, and you’ll get a paddle.

You’ll all love seeing the rainforest creatures and the various species of fish. Catch one of the shows to learn even more about these fascinating creatures! Everyone will love riding the conveyor under the Shark Lagoon, and you should try to spot Sally the sea turtle on your ride!
